Versespace 10- Meeting an Elder - Tree in Conoor

Image
There in a corner you stood Tall and ram-rod straight! I would have missed you If his shout had not made me run, Towards your majestic girth. 1869 - I rub my eyes with wonder... A hundred and fifty years ago you were planted, To witness the passing time.   Hello dear ancestor, I greet you with delight. Hello dear old tree, I hug you with tenderness. You, my evergreen have lived a long life, In your corner all by yourself. Perhaps, Whispering to your near and dear ones, In a language known only to you.   Wonder what you have seen and heard and felt in all these years, Wonder what secrets are known only to you, Wonder what you feel about me and the hug I give you, Wonder if you will live, long after I am gone...  A witness to the passing time.           ~Meeting a tree planted in 1869 ( Sims Park Coonoor ~ Nov 18th 2022)

The Bell of Justice - Manu Needhi Chozhan - Story of Compassion ( 3 min read)

The loud and rhythmic sound of the bell ringing, galvanized the King. He hurried down the steps, across the path leading to the gate, built into the perimeter of the palace grounds. That is where the Bell of Justice was hung, for anyone who wished for justice from their fair King of the Chozha dynasty. "Who needs me so badly? Who is ringing the bell with such urgency?" Thoughts racing through his mind, the King hurried closer to towards the gate. His feet faltered and he would have fallen, when he quickly centered himself, as a King his reflexes had been sharpened by years of training, rarely did he miss a step, but he had at this moment. For what he witnessed was a wonder. No man or woman stood ringing the bell - a cow stood with tears streaming down its cheeks, and holding the rope end. ~~ This is the story of the noblest in the land That man we honor and revere Who, without fear or favor, in the great city doth stand The friend of every friendless beast, the Great Lord of...

Memory - Remember - Elder Tree ( reimagined story) - (4 minute read)

Once there was a girl who got her feet wet and cold.  How could this happen when it was a bright sunny day?  Her mother undressed her and made her lie down on the cosy bed with some warm ginger chai (tea), having added a dash of turmeric, pepper and lemon grass. (Mother's feel better to add everything that will make us feel better!). Just then there came a knock at the door. It was the old man,(who they called Dadaji), who lived upstairs. He lived all alone, his children having moved to another country and his wife too deciding to take an early departure to the the other world. He was fond of children and often came down to chat with the little one. He loved to talk and chat and tell funny little stories that always kept the little one enthralled! "Now drink your tea, and then perhaps there will be a story in that for you"! said Mother "Yes! perhaps a new story will come to me today!" said the kind old story man from upstairs. "But tell me how did ...
